This section documents the analytical laboratory methods processed in the Monolith data pipeline. Each method has a dedicated Dagster asset pipeline that ingests raw data from SharePoint, normalizes sample IDs, and stores processed results in PostgreSQL.
📄️ ICP - Inductively Coupled Plasma
Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) is used to measure the elemental composition of solid materials. It provides quantitative elemental analysis expressed in ppm or weight percent.
📄️ XRD - X-Ray Diffraction
X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) is used to identify and quantify crystalline mineral phases in solid samples. It provides mineral composition expressed as weight percentages, processed using Profex (Rietveld refinement) software.
📄️ XRF - X-Ray Fluorescence
X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry is used to measure the elemental oxide composition of solid samples. It provides bulk oxide analysis expressed as weight percentages.
📄️ PSA - Particle Size Analysis
Particle Size Analysis (PSA) uses laser diffraction to measure the grain size distribution of powdered materials. It provides cumulative distribution curves and quantile statistics (D-values) that characterize the particle size distribution.
📄️ FTIR - Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy is used to identify molecular structures and chemical bonds through infrared absorption. It provides spectral data showing absorbance as a function of wavenumber.
📄️ BET - Brunauer-Emmett-Teller
Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis is used to measure the specific surface area, pore volume, and pore size distribution of solid materials via gas adsorption. It provides key physical properties related to material reactivity and processing behavior.
📄️ ICS - Ion Chromatography System
Ion Chromatography (IC) is used to measure the concentration of dissolved ionic species in solution. It provides quantitative analysis of anions and cations, commonly used for analyzing process solutions, leachates, and water samples.
📄️ Titration - Acid-Base Analysis
Acid-base potentiometric titration is used to measure freebase/limestone content in pilot plant liquids. The OrionStarT940 Auto Titrator generates pH vs. volume curves and calculates endpoint values.
